Opening Night... April 10th... at the OffRoad Speedway.
One of the new things we are doing this year is the trophy presentations. Kids, 15 and under can sign up to be drawn as the Trophy Princes and Princesses. There will be a table on the upper concourse with note pads and a drop box. At intermission names will be drawn to help present the trophy to the A-Feature winners. These Princes and Princesses will then be presented a trophy of their own to take home. This weeks sponsor of the A-Feature trophies is SouthSide Salvage.
Speaking of Sponsors, the Speedway has been blessed with a good number of Sponsors. Without them, I really doubt the gates would open on Saturday Nights here in Norfolk. So I encourage everyone to let them know your appreciation every chance you get.
Wetzel and Truex will once again be giving away another piece of Jewelry. Signups for the drawing will also be at the table on the upper concourse. Adults can enter every week during the race season and the drawing for the giveaway will be at the end of the season.
Because of the cancellation of the car show at the Mall this year, Troy Weyhrich (Renegade Store) and Mark Benedict (Family Vending LLC) has stepped up to provide another option. So on opening night, prior to heat races, drivers that want to have their car judged by the fans in the stands will gather on the track by class. Loudest cheers from the Grandstand will determine the winner with $800 of prize money given out. Also, they will be giving out $1 off tickets at the Admission Shack. The first 400 adults will get the tickets good for $1 off any drinks at Scott's Smoke Shack or the Beer window.
IMCA Sunoco Late Model Bonus Money Night! Sunoco will be adding another $250 for the winner of the Late Model A-Feature Race on July 17th. So this will be a $750 to win night for the Late Models.
Another item I would like to point out is the new admission price for the Grandstands. General admission for a regular race night is $15 for those 16 and over. All those under 15 will get in free if accompanied by a Parent or Guardian.
So, the normal times for the race program will be 6:15 for Hot Laps and racing will start at 7:00. These times can change but this will be the goal.
For this Saturday it looks like the high will be 63 degrees. I anticipate the track will be in great shape as it is being watered by Mother Nature. The pits will be a different story but still should be good as its drains pretty well. Someone again tried driving in the pits yesterday and this does not help because of the tracks. This happens way to often so please refrain from driving up to the track after a rain.
Thanks, Jerry
