Pospisil tops Malvern Bank Late Models at Off Road Speedway

Pospisil tops Malvern Bank Late Models at Off Road Speedway

By Anthony Ainslie (Norfolk, NE) -- A fourth consecutive win and a weekend sweep for Tad Pospisil as he wins on his home track at Off-Road Speedway Saturday night.

Saturday’s visit to Off-Road Speedway in Norfolk, Nebraska marked round ten of the 2020 season for the Malvern Bank Super Late Models West Series. The race was also the final race for the speedway for the year as the series took on the quarter-mile bullring for the Bob Haase Memorial. A field of 29 cars made the trip out to Norfolk. The Norfolk natives came out in full force as Pospisil and 2020 Off-Road Speedway Champion Ben Sukup took the top two qualifying spots.

However, it was Charlie McKenna, in his first visit to the track, who was on the pole for the 35-lap main event. Bill Leighton Jr. was to his outside on the front row, and the duo traded the lead a few times. Leighton was driving Jay Burdic’s # J1 car after suffering mechanical failures in his primary car the night before at I-80 Speedway.

The battle for the lead between Leighton and McKenna was intense while Tad Pospisil worked his way to third and tried to chase them down. While that went on, Andrew Kosiski and Zach Zeitner went wheel to wheel for fourth.

McKenna’s race went south when he spun out entering turn one while running second with 23 laps remaining. The Ames, Iowa native went to the rear and came back to finish tenth.

When racing resumed, Leighton continued to lead while Pospisil did everything to work the bottom line to catch up. Pospisil’s work on the inside lane paid off as he caught and passed Leighton for the lead off turn two with 11 laps to go.

The second and final caution came out for a slow car in turn four which set up a four-lap dash to the finish. Pospisil hit his marks on the restart, and the championship points leader from Norfolk got the win he was wanting for years.

Pospisil scored his first win on his home track. The win completed the weekend sweep for Pospisil after his win the night before at I-80. It was Pospisil’s sixth win of the season between the East and West series and his 23rd career win with the Malvern Bank and Haulin’ with Hoker Trucking Super Late Models.

Leighton took second with a borrowed car while Andrew Kosiski made it back-to-back third-place finishes on the weekend. Defending Series Champion Kyle Berck finished fourth, and Off-Road Speedway regular Jim Johnson rounded out the top five. Zach Zeitner also got his career-best feature finish with a sixth-place finish.

The Malvern Bank and Haulin’ with Hoker Trucking Super Late Model Series now turn their attention to the richest weekend of the year. Both tours head east to the 300 Raceway in Farley, Iowa for the 43rd annual Yankee Dirt Track Classic. The weekend will feature a $3,000 to win feature on Friday and a massive $10,000 to win main event on Saturday.
